Good morning all and after a magnificent night at the LS it's back to PL action
Aston Villa had a tough mid week match against Ajax. Apparently Watkins' injury is not as bad as first thought

Both teams come off comfortable thrashings of European clubs to qualify for their respective quarter finals.
I expect a cracking game where we will avenge our defeat at Villa Park. A full house cheering on our team too.

Last match before international break so no need to rest anyone.
I’d be tempted to give Philips a start on the basis that he will be needed against Leverkusen and we somehow need to get him to play himself into form.
Don’t know when the U21s play again but I’d play him in those as well if we can… he needs to play as much as possible.

We are going to need to attack more. Despite scoring 5 we only had 11 shots,7 on target. Villa won't be as slow to attack as Freiburg. There were moments when we were 3'0 up for 20 minutes and we defended on the D.To far back Villa will hurt us there.
Paqueta and Antonio can only play 70 mins max. Thus we need to bring on subs early. Despite being 4-0 up and the game over Moyes took another 10 minutes to bring on the last subs. The Johnson was frigging weird. Why not bring on Earthy earlier ?
We need to go at like last night and Brentford you know it makes sense Moyes

Got to stop Watkins who is scoring every game. If he picks Cresswell again we will need Kudus doubling up on Bailey as he did excellently with Doan last night who is Freibergs best attacking player.
Dont think he shoukd risk Zouma against especially against the speed of Watkins etc but cannot have Aguerd playing and he wont play Ogbonna
Antonio upfront with Bowen and Kudus. Moyes will play the same starting 11 as he doesnt have or use a squad
This season we seem to show promise in a couple of games only to fall on our arse next game. Wonder if we can get a run going this time or were Freiberg just not that good ? once again we ask if we “turned a corner”’ or is it back to being consistently inconsistent?

All a bit tedious now.
Always love to read daveygs preview of the game, the tactics we should use and when substitutions should take place.
When Moyes goes I hope he applies for the job because he knows so much.

Tough one this.
We know what does not work (first half against Burnley)
We know what could work (Second half against Burnley, Freiburg, Brentford)
Whatever, despite being a defence first setup, we ain't good at it and we've leaked like a sieve this year. I think if we try and sit back against Villa we'll get picked off and if we let the handbrake off we might get done against their pace.
